thrips (thysanoptera) species associated with wheat and barley in golestan province, iran
Authors
abstract
fields of winter wheat and barley were sampled during two years (november to june 1996-1998) in golestan province to determine the occurrence, frequency and distribution of thrips species. a total of 32 species belonging to 3 families and 16 genera were found. haplothrips tritici (kurdjumov) was the dominant species accounting for 70.2% and 55.7% of identified individuals in wheat and barley, respectively. sitothrips arabicus priesner was the second most abundant species, comprising 13.5% and 20.1% in wheat and barley, respectively. regression analysis showed a non-linear relation (y = 42.65 + 0.33x â 0.0002x2) between altitude (x) and population density of h. tritici (y) on wheat. locality and date of collection, host(s) and distribution data for each species are given.

full textNatural Zearalenone Contamination of Wheat from Golestan Province, Northern Iran
Zearalenone contamination of 175 wheat samples produced in 2004 in Golestan province, northern Iran was determined. The 10-20 kg samples collected at different stages, including pre-harvest, before and after storage for 2 months in local silos. Samples were ground and sub-sampled with an analytical Romer mill. Each sample extract was cleaned-up using an immunoaffinity column. Zearalenone levels...

full textGrass-flower thrips of the genus Chirothrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), with a key to species from Iran
Species of the genus Chirothrips Haliday breed and pupate only within grass florets. Each larva is restricted to a single floret, and adult body size is thus presumably related to floret size. Despite this, some Chirothrips species are distinguished only on states that are related to body size. The validity of some commonly recorded members of the C. manicatus species-group, including C. africa...
full textNew synonymy in the wheat thrips, Haplothrips tritici (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae).

The identity of this thrips species is not in doubt, but a closely similar species, Haplothrips cerealis, was described from Egypt (Pr...
